Just under 2 months

My mother-in-law said to me this weekend that the first home Ohio State game is at the end of next month. Now, I know that the first game is at the end of August, but it really took me by suprise to think of it that way. At the end of next month. While, it really is still almost 2 months away, that time will probably go fast and before we know it, OSU Football season will be upon us.

Script_ohio

Ah, a quad Script Ohio. That is so very cool. I am a Buckeye, born and raised. I bleed scarlet and gray. And that was all before I even went to school there. Before that, I was also a Bobcat (Ohio Univeristy). All I wanted from first grade to senior year was to go to OU and be a Bobcat, like my brother for me. I gave up that hope when I did not get into OU's main campus in Athens, Ohio. I decided to go to Bowling Green instead. Well, that's what the High School graduation program said anyways. I went through all the necessary planning steps. I went to orientation, signed up for class, bought all my books. About a week before I was supposed to go though, I  backed out. I was not a Falcon, I wanted to be a Bobcat. So, we drove back and returned all the books, and got back our money. We then went to the Lancaster branch of OU and signed up for classes, which were starting in just a few days. The plan was to go to the Lancaster branch for a year, and then transfer to the main branch in Athens. I was dedicated to. I took that year to be completly focused on myself. No dating, not even dealing with guys. I had enough of the emotional stress they seemed to bring in high school, especially my senior year, so I just kept to myself and my close group of friends. Well, half way through, I decided to change my major, and well, also my school. OSU would be the better choice for the major I wanted, which was Commercial Interior Design, so I applied to transfer to the Main OSU campus, and my hard work had paid off, as I got in, no problem. I really became a Buckeye.

My first year there was also to be another year for me, and not worrying about the male folk. I joined my sorority, moved into the house, and studied hard. I ended up changing my major again, and some of the guys I was trying so hard to run away from were coming back into my life...one of those being my husband.

Wow, sorry for that tangant of school and men. Not where I was originally going.

So, where I was going with this originally. I am a Buckeye, in all aspects. I grew up in Central Ohio, I knew nothing else but the Buckeyes. Once I started going to school there, I became much, much more involved in the whole football craze. I had friends on teams that had played them, and friends who were physical therapists that traveled with the team. When Nick and I moved in together the fall after I graduated in 2005, I became more interested in all College Football. It became a day I looked forward to, to watch all the games. Nick's grandpa used to teach at OSU, so his parents get season tickets. Nick and his dad are crazy OSU fans, so that was a lot to adjust to, but has been a lot of fun. We had to plan our wedding and reception around the games last year. I would like to say that I'm kidding, but I'm not. We were out of town for two games, the first we were in San Juan and the second we were docked in St. Thomas. Let me just say that football season is a crazy, but fun, time around here, and I am looking forward to that first game at the end of next month.

Why did I mention OU again. Oh, that's right. OSU and OU are playing each other this fall at OSU. This is exciting, and I am hoping that we can go, well, unless we are on vacation for our first Anniversary. In that case, we will just miss it. Well, you know, not really miss it. I am sure we will watch it on TV where ever we are. I usually don't care about the in-state games, but it will be fun to see my alma mater and my brothers go head to head.

If you are not a football fan, and, more importantly, not an OSU fan, sorry, you will just have to ignore any football related posts. But really, I doubt there will be many, if any, beyond this one. I just can't believe that football season is almost upon us. This year is flying.

Yeah, and I can post from home again! Woohoo. Night kids!

Dallas Swimming

I know I promised these photos last night, and you would have had them, if I had only remembered that I cannot post from home still. There will be another post later today as well, but for now, check out our little guy swimming and floating around the big pool with me dad!

What I did this weekend...

Nothing! It was great!

Okay, well, not really nothing.

I got up way too early on Friday in an attempt to get on the road by 9, failed miserably, and didn't get on the road till 10:15. That was mostly in part due to my husband who decided to be stubborn, just for the heck of it. I went up stairs around 9:00 to try and wake him up (I had already done this twice), and I was met with a lot of attitude. I gave up and went back downstairs to finish up somethings and then I hear the shower start. Once he is all ready, he comes downstairs to inform me that he was just about to get up right before I came in and started "harassing" him, so then he decided to play dead and give me a hard time. Nice, real nice.

We went to Columbus this weekend to visit with my parents, and made a day trip down to Cincinnati on Saturday to visit his parents. We dragged them out to see Iron Man, which they both enjoyed. We didn't get back into Columbus until after 1 am, so we didn't do much on Sunday before heading back to Pittsburgh.

We did get Dallas to swim with my dad in the pool and I have some great pics of it...on my camera. By the time we got home last night and got settled in, I just did not even think about uploading my new pics online. I will do that tonight and post them here, just cause they are sooo darn cute. So come back later and check them out if you would like.

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Film*Music*Book

 Film

St. Elmo's Fire. I love this movie. What I love more is that my thoughtful husband saw that it was going to be on in HighDef and recorded it on the DVR for me. I could not find the actual trailer for this on YouTube (weird, I know), but this was the little music video for the love theme of the movie. It gives you a pretty good idea what's going on, and if you have never seen it, I recommend it. Yeah, yeah, it has most of the Brat Packers in it, but I think it is a little more grown up, a little more heartfelt, and a little more honest than the other typical Brat Pack flicks. Of course, I love all of them, being the 80s girl that I am, so it is a favorite of mine.

Music

Kate-nash-01

I am really enjoying Kate Nash lately. I had writen about her awhile back in May, but this week listening to her music has been very inspiring to me, and I just have to share that. I found her when she was featured on MTV for a week back in January. They were just playing small portions of her songs while they would be advertising for their shows, but I immediatly wanted to hear more. The music and lyrics are amazing and I think "The Nicest Thing" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and it became a favorite of mine real quick. It is hard to pick out which song I like the most, as it just kind of depends on my mood. I enjoy Happy Merry, Foundations, and the Skeleton Song, and Birds is quickly becoming another fav. I'm going to stop there though because if I keep going I will just end up listing the entire album. Check her out if you haven't already.

Book

SchulzCover

I have always been a fan of the Peanuts Comics. My brother grew up with all the books, and my parents kept all of them so I was able to enjoy them when I was a kid as well. I never got tired of watching the TV specials (we had most of them  recorded on VHS), and I would love it when my mom would let me check out some of the other movies from the Library. To this day, Race for your life, Charlie Brown, is one of my favorite things to watch...or the one where Snoopy makes Charlie Brown invisable and covers him with mud so they can see where he is. That doesn't work in real life, although I spent a lot of time trying to make it work.

I am currently reading the biography of the man that brought me such joy and fun as a kid, and still as an adult. I love reading biographies and it has been such a long time since I have, that I thought this would be a great one to read. As the author tells the story of Charles Schulz life, he intermixes some of the comic strips, where you can see how Schulz would take real life events and conversations and put them right out there in black and white.

Loving this

About a week or so ago over at Elsie Flannigans blog, she posted about wanting a Gocco Printer. I had never heard of this, so I wanted to check it out.

After doing some Googling and searching and reading, I found the website for the Gocco. It looked very cool and seemed like something that I would enjoy. On top of all the other crafty things I get myself into, I had been wanting to also learn screen printing. This seems like it, but kind of in a compact, less mess sort of way. What a great way to get my feet wet.

Reading about it and seeing it done, however, are too very different things. Let me tell ya, I thought I wanted one just after reading about it, but after seeing this little demo put on by the fine folks at Etsy Labs, I most defintly have to have one now. Watch and enjoy and just try to not want one!

Is it not totally awesome? I also found that they stock and sell them, including extra supplies and paint, at Paper Source, and they also have a fun little demo video where they have used a photo copy of an older picture. That turned out pretty sweet as well. If you have never checked this website out before, I recommend it, as they have some very cool stuff in general.

Something that I didn't share here was that I tried out for a Design Team awhile back. It was my first time every trying for something like that, and it was a really good experience for me and I am so glad that I did. I didn't make the team, but the women that did are crazy talented and completly blow my stuff out of the water. The site is Scrapbooking from the Inside Out and is a new scrapbooking community, with monthly kits, message boards, a gallery and tons of inspiration. This is the mission of the site from the founder Rachels blog:

The mission of Scrapbooking from the Inside Out is to help scrapbookers explore their inner worlds and motivate them to express themselves on the scrapbook page with greater depth, to reach for scrapbooking as support, encouragement and catharsis in processing life’s pleasurable and difficult moments. Scrapbooking from the Inside Out creates a totally new space in the scrapbooking world for sharing thoughts and feelings in the way that only scrapbookers can. You'll find it at Scrapbooking From The Inside Out.

I love this concept of scrapbooking and it is how I approach it. I was really excited to hear about this new website dedicated to this whole idea of scrapbooking and hope that other people are just as excited!

It's Wednesday...okay, it's not

The wonderfulness of a 4 day work week! While it is only Tuesday in reality, it is really like my Wednesday, so Happy Hump Day to anyone else with a 4-day work week!

So, the home theater is near complete as Nick is ready to buy the new TV. He is going to order it on Thursday from Cleveland Plasma, and they told us that when the delivery company calls us, we should be able to work out what would be the best time for them to come. This is great, since Nick can work it around his work schedule. That is one of the things I love most about his job. While he is on call pretty much all the time, his schedule is also pretty flexible, so we can always work out getting things delivered or installed, without either one of us having to take time off from work. Once he has the TV ordered, he just needs to order a few more things for wiring the sound. He has some really cool speaker wire picked out and he still needs some more banana plugs....or is it banana clips? I'm not sure which, I just know that it is not what we used to wear in our hair when we were kids. Ugh, I just re-read that. I think I have been spending too much time with him planning this whole thing out. I just refered to speaker wire as "cool". I should have said that it is nice and high end and will make our walls shake and our windows rattle. Yeah, that is a much better description than "cool". The TV that we are getting is the Toshiba 52XF550U and it looks like this:

TV

Ours will not have a cute seal (or is that an otter?) on it, but instead will have Star Trek and the Terminator, and other such things. Nick is hoping to get everything wired and set up so when we get the TV, all we have to do is take it out of the box and plug it in. I am sure there will be at least an hour or two of fine tuning and adjusting the picture and/or sound, until it is just perfect. We will have a big opening for the home theater, where we will watch all of Nicks (and a few of mine) favorite movies and have awful terrible, but sooo good, food and not see the light of day for at least 48 hours...with the exception of having to take the dog out. I cannot wait!

Well kids, that is it for today, but check back tomorrow, I might just have something for you!

What I did this weekend...

80s

Close up 2

Journaling

Journaling Reads:

Katie, Me, Mario, and Tiff at a random house on OSU campus, Halloween 2002. I was supposed to be an    80's girl, but I looked like a foriegn exchange student.

I came across this photo last week and just knew I had to scrapbook it.

We went to one Halloween party and it wasn't good, so we left and went to Ohio States campus, as there was sure to be some good parties going on. Now, Katie and Tiffany called and invited Kurt (not pictured) and I kind of last minute, so I didn't have time to put together a proper 80's girl outfit. When I was done and we went out, I realized that I looked more like a European foriegn exchange student who was a few decades behind (or ahead, as the case most usually is with people from European countries...very fashion forward). We were walking down some street looking for a good party and heard Edie Money playing from this house and figured if they were playing 80s music, then this had to be the house for us. Everyone was really nice, and we even met one of the guys who was hosting the party, Denny, who was a die (his roomate completed the "Pair of Dice" outfit they were going for), and was totally okay with us just walking in off the street into his party. Tiffany ran into a friend of her Ex and that was kind of weird, and I have no idea who Mario is in this pic, but they seemed happy to take the picture with us. I am guessing Kurt took the pic. He was Robin, of Batman and Robin, by the way. I just love looking back at this picture because it was such a random and fun night out with friends, and those were always the best.

*** On a side note, I said that there would probably be a few bumps along the way while I get into the new blog format I am going for, and so far the biggest one has been the inability to post from my laptop. This wouldn't normally pose a problem, as Nick has one I could use, but he had to send it off to his companies IT guys to have them take a look at it, since it died on him last week. I am hoping that once he gets it back, that he will allow me to borrow it on the weekends to post. Until he gets it back though, this is going to be a Monday - Friday show.

Peace out *g*

The Convention Center

Working in a building that is attached to the convention center has it's perks. For one, you get to see all of the groups that come here. Most of the time it is professional groups, like doctors, teachers, engineers, and other similar groups. Once in awhile, though, you get something a little different. I have seen Mary Kay here, a Romance Novel group, and my favorite until this weekend, a Youth Chess group. It was crazy to see all these kids, ages 6-12, and their parents, all over the building practicing and coming up with different plans. They had all kinds of graphs and scenarios planned out, and I could tell it was serious business.

Well, this weekend, the Welcome board had another professional group listed, so I didn't really pay it any mind, that is until my co-worker informed me that the Furries would be here for their Convention, AnthroCon. Unfortunatly, the Welcome board only has enough room for one group name, and I was unaware and totally unprepared for what was about to decsend on our building.

Furry Fandom (the technical name, I am guessing) as defined by Wikipedia:

Furry fandom is a fandom devoted to anthropomorphic animal characters.[1][2] Since the 1980s, the term furries has come to refer to such characters.

While I was reading more about it, I was directed to the Conventions website, and also found out that this is the biggest convention in the world...according to Wiki, at least.

It has been a crazy couple of days as more and more people make their way here, and when I walked through the hotel lobby this afternoon, it was like a zoo. No pun intended, of course.

I knew there was this sub-culture out there, but I had no idea how big it was, or how devoted. I also still can't believe that the largest convention for them is held here, of all places. I wonder how that happend? I think, though, that this may be my new favorite convention.

Sorry Chess kids, you just can't compete with adults dressed as animals.

Film * Music * Book

I know what you are thinking. That on the third day that I am supposed to be posting, I forget. Well, I didn't forget. I was going to post later last night when I was at home, and my computer decided it did not like the new set up here at Typepad, so I couldn't.  It wouldnn't even let me post to say that it would be postponed until this morning. Oh well. So, you will be getting two posts from me today. The one that should have been posted yesterday and the one I was going to post today. So, now here is Thursdays very late post.

We watch and listen to a lot of different things in our house, and I just recently took up reading again, with the new found discovery of the Library on my way to and from the bus stop downtown. Here is where I will share what Film (which also may be TV shows on DVD sometimes...just a fair warning), Music, and Book has been inspiring me that week, or maybe just that day, or moment. Anyways, this is where I will share that, so hopefully maybe you will find something that interests you or something you had once loved but had forgot about. Okay, well, without further adue...

Film

I loved the original movies that Kevin Sullivan did in the 1980's, even if they were different from the books. I had recently received the first two movies from Netflix and there was the above preview for third movie on them, which I had never seen. While it was different from the books, I still enjoyed it and thought I would share the preview with you.

Music

LWIII *photo by John Hooper from the Loudon Wainwright III website

I love the music in Knocked Up, and had to find out who did the songs "Daughter" and "Grey in LA". The artist is Loudon Wainwright III and he has been around for quite a while. Since discovering him I have loved pretty much everything I have listened to and still can't get enough. Check out his website here, and you can listen to some of his tracks.

Book

AofA

Because I was so into watching all of The Anne of Green Gables movies, it made me want to go back and read the books, especially since the third movie mentions characters that we are only introduced to in the books and not the two previous movies. Right now I am reading Anne of Avonlea, or Anne of Green Gables Vol. 2, which ever way you choose to look at it.

I would love to have a copy like this, but I think it is something that I will have to keep wishing for or try to find for a little cheaper.

That's all for now kids, but I will be back this afternoon with another interesting post. Trust me when I say that it will be interesting. That doesn't even begin to describe it...

Peace out *g*
